SoBe Arts makes life a little easier with its new Chamber Ensemble Program for Youth ages 10-17 (intermediate to advanced levels).  Directed by Robert Chumbley (see column on Mr. Chumbley), this wonderful new opportunity convenient to the beach and downtown students will provide a top notch opportunity for performing experiences, music theory, and social interacting with other like-minded young musicians and the learning of ensemble repertory.  Combined with weekly instrumental instruction, the Chamber Ensemble Program is the newest star in the SoBe Arts constellation.  Arts for Youth

YOUNG ACTORS PROGRAM
"All the world's a stage"
 
Actorsface1Students work with theater professionals and learn to act in plays, create sets and costumes, design and work lights and sound... and finally perform in a production created by you and your fellow participants. There will also be monthly show & tell events, in which students show each other and participating parents the progress they are making. Instructor, Carey Cane - Arts for Youth
MUSIC FOR YOUTH (IMMERSION)
"The Benefits are Greater than you Think"
 
kids09This unique and multifaceted Spring semester program is designed to provide children with 17 weeks of extraordinary music education through the use of unique interactive computer music programs, musicianship/theory classes, private & group instrumental, voice instruction and monthly performance activities. Our instructors work with the children and teens to promote learning and experiencing music without intimidation. The program concludes with a gala concert & picnic open to the public (5/30). Robert Chumbley, Music Director Chamber Ensemble Program and Conducting Instructor
 
CHUMBLEY1SoBe Arts is thrilled to welcome Robert Chumbley to our roster of top professional artists and instructors.
 
Maestro Chumbley is one of the most versatile musicians of our day. Equally at home conducting for the musical theater, opera, ballet and symphony, Mr. Chumbley has served as Music Director for Atlanta Ballet for five seasons, and for Cleveland Opera. He has appeared as guest conductor with the Breckenridge Music Festival (Colorado), American Repertory Ballet, Norwegian National Opera, the Royal Ballet Orchestra (London), the Carolina Chamber Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony and the Prague Chamber Orchestra among other groups. He has served as Principal Guest Conductor of the renowned Piedmont Wind Symphony, and as Artistic Advisor to the Chicago Chamber Musicians. Robert Chumbley 
MUSICAL THEATER FOR YOUTH

This exciting course is divided into 4 creative learning segments:


  • 4 weeks of vocal training with Rebekah Diaz,
  • 4 weeks of acting instruction with Carey Cane,
  • 4 weeks of movement with Lara Tinari
  • and the last 3 weeks with the theater faculty focusing on all aspects of production and culminating in a production of a musical in the newly renovated Little Stage theater. 
Students will focus on scenes, songs, and choreography from musicals old and new. Topics learned will include: bringing characterization to a song and choreography, defining a character, vocal techniques, and mastering the various musical theatre techniques and styles. In the beginning levels, technique and style will be introduced in the three areas. In the more advanced levels, various styles, advanced technique, and vocal performance will be the focus. DANCE FOR YOUTH
"Increased self-esteem, coordination, balance and poise"

Students work with a professional dancer  choreographer, and have fun learning the techniques and history of modern and traditional dance... creating dance costumes... and finally perform in a dance created for you, and by you, and your fellow participants. Instructor, Lara Tinari - Arts for Youth

LaradanceSoBe Arts Faculty now includes over 30 artists from leading conservatories, ensembles, and performance venues in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia... Artists have opportunities both to teach and to perform: the Institute provides community-level classes and advanced individual instruction for youth and adults, while organizing a full season of professional productions featuring faculty and visiting artists. flutemouthStudents are admitted to SoBe Institute of the Arts without regard to their socioeconomic situation.  Currently more than 50% of our youngest students require scholarships and all students are subsidized to some extent.  Please contribute to our scholarship fund so we can continue to include Miami's most needy children in our programs.  You can donate on line www.sobearts.org or send a check made payable to the SoBe Institute of the Arts (Scholarship Fund on memo line) and mail to 2100 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139.
