SOBEARTSFRONTMiami Beach, FL - SoBe Institute of the Arts / SoBe Music Institute announces its SoBe Arts Summer Program 2009 (arts education program and workshops) for children, teens and adults (June 15/22 - July 31).  SoBe Arts is located in the historic Carl Fisher Clubhouse and Little Stage Theater Complex on Miami Beach.

This summer we are pleased to expand from our celebrated music program and offer  high-level programs and workshops in Film, Theater, Dance and Musical Theater.  Just as our unique music immerision curriculum is taught by  a faculty of great professional musician/instructors, our new programs and workshops will offer instructors with experience in world-class performing arts organizations including Twyla Tharp Dance, Manhattan School of Music and the Public Theater / New York Shakespeare Festival (NYC),  all supervised by Executive Artistic Director, Carson Kievman, Ph.D.:   
 
SUMMERFILMFLYER09SoBe Arts Film Program for Teens (ages 14-17).  Program Manager: Alyn Darnay, from Chaos Films.  Classes meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays (4:00pm-6:00pm) from June 23 through July 30, 2009.  This exciting new program will culminate in the making of an original film by the participants.  To prepare them for this exciting experience, participants will spend each week learning scriptwriting, crew positions, acting, set Design, props, location, directing, camera, lighting, sound, crew selection, actor rehearsals, music, editing graphics, pre-production and film shoot. 

SoBe Arts Dance Program for youth (ages 6-12) & Teens (ages 13-17).  Program manager: Lara Tinari, formerly with Twyla Tharp Dance. Dance SUMMERDANCE09for Youth classes will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays (1:00pm-4:00pm) from June 22 through July 31, 2009.  Dance for Teens classes will meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays (10:00am - 1:00pm) from June 23 through July 31, 2009.  Students will work with professional dancers and choreographers and have fun learning the techniques of modern and traditional dance. They will also create costumes and props, design and work with lights and sound... and finally perform in a dance created for them, by them, and by fellow participants (accompanied by live music by students from the music program).
 
SUMMERBROADWAY09SoBe Arts Broadway Musical Theater Workshop for Teens (ages 13-17). Program Manager: Rebekah Diaz, formerly with Manahattan School of Music (NYC). Workshop classes will meet Mondays through Thursdays (6:00pm-9:00pm) from June 15 through July 9, 2009.  This workshop is the students first step to becoming a triple threat performer: Actor - Singer - Dancer.  Participants will focus on scenes, songs, and choreography from musicals old and new. Topics learned will include: bringing characterization to a song and choreography, defining a character, vocal techniques, and mastering the various musical theatre techniques and styles. In the beginning levels, technique and style will be introduced in the three areas. In the more advanced levels, various styles, advanced technique, and vocal performance will be the focus.

SUMMERTHEATER09SoBe Arts Theater Program for Youth (ages 6-12) & Teens (ages 13-17). Program Manager: Thomas Eckermann, former artist-in-residence 13th Street Repertory Theater (NYC). Theater for Youth classes will meet Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays (Section A 10:00am-1:00PM - Section B 1:00pm - 4:00pm)  from June 22 through July 31, 2009. Theater for Teens classes will meet Tuesdays & Thursdays (4:00pm-6:00pm) from June 23 through July 30, 2009. Students work with theater professionals and will received intensive training in acting learn, creating sets and costumes, designing and working lights and sound... and finally perform in a production created for them, by them and your fellow participants. 
 
SUMMERMUSIC09SoBe Arts Music Program
for Tots (ages 3-5), Youth (ages 6-12) & Teens (ages 13-17).  Program Manager: Carson Kievman, former composer/stage director-in-residence with the Tanglewood Music Festival. Music for Tots dates and times TBA. Music for Youth classes will meet Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays (10:00am - 1:00pm) from June 22 through July 31, 2009. Music for Teens classes will meet Tuesdays & Thursdays (1:00pm - 4:00pm) from June 23 through July 30, 2009.  SoBe Arts Music Programs are designed to provide children and teens with extraordinary music education through the use of unique interactive computer music programs, musicianship/theory classes, private & group instrumental and voice instruction and performance activities. Our instructors work with the children and teens to promote learning and experiencing music without intimidation. The program concludes with a gala concert and picnic open to the public. The unique and multifaceted immersion program is designed not only to be fun and exciting, but also to help the students develop a deepened sense of musical phrase, structure and form, as well as improve their performance skills.
