Suffolk County SPCA Seizes Exotic Reptiles from Oakdale Pet Shop

The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has seized two Alligators from an Oakdale Pet Shop last week.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk County SPCA said specially-trained officers from the SPCA's Emergency Animal Response Team (EART)  responded to Best Pets, 4508 Sunrise Highway, Oakdale and removed the illegally possessed alligators. Chief Gross said the young alligators were approximately 1 foot and 2 feet long.

Best Pets owner, Joseph Salmone, was issued tickets for violating the terms of the permit and possession of illegal animals.

The Suffolk County SPCA is appealing to the public for financial help, so that we may provide the necessary medical care for the animals surrendered until they can be safely transported.  We are a private, nonprofit, charitable organization and the voice for animals in Suffolk County.  We do not receive taxpayer or public funding and we must rely on the support and generosity of donors to exist.  Donations can be mailed to Suffolk County SPCA, 363 Rt. 111, Smithtown, NY11787 or by logging on to our website
