SPCA AGENTS REMOVE 54 DOGS FROM HOME !!
It was a hellhole". That was the description of a local home that was the scene of squalid conditions, covered with urine and feces. Fifty four dogs were found in the home without any food or water. Local police and Suffolk SPCA agents had to wear breathing apparatus, as the stench from the dogs was overpowering. As our investigation unfolded, it was discovered that three local people had allegedly stolen a dog, then listed it on an adoption website requesting a $350 adoption fee. They supposedly were running a shelter for dogs, and had established a "foundation" to solicit funds for the care of these animals. However, some of the dogs that they collected were kept in filthy, cramped cages, and others were running loose.
The seizures were made after a local woman found a picture of her lost dog on an Internet site used for advertising pets for adoption. Police followed the ad for the dog to the home, and found conditions that were difficult to believe. Agents from the Suffolk County SPCA were called, and together with local police, raided the house and confiscated the animals.
Removal of all of the dogs was a difficult task but each animal was placed in safe / healthy area shelter. Many of the dogs had microchips embedded under their skin which expedited proper ownership. The three people involved were arrested on charges of animal cruelty, possession of stolen property, and grand larceny.
The Suffolk County SPCA is accepting donations for the veterinary care for these animals. Your tax exempt donation will help to defray some of the costs of transporting all the dogs to shelters throughout the County, as well as necessary health care costs. Your donation will also be used for programs that will benefit other animals in need.
