Cody
Suffolk County SPCA Mascot
The Suffolk County SPCA is saddened by the death of cody, their 12 year old golden retriever mascot. Cody was a remarkable dog; he served as a therapy dog to the search & rescue dogs who labored at the world trade center. His joy and happiness was felt everywhere he went: school presentations, nursing homes, parades, street fairs, television studios, police stations, motorcycle rides, dog walks, Spay and neuter clinics and the SPCA's office.
The cody foundation has been established in his name to provide spay/neuter services, and to help animals in need. His owners, chief roy gross and lois gross are dedicated to preserving his memory by helping all animals who are in distress and need help
Cody loved kids, and the kids loved him! His presence at many schools taught the students about the care and handling of dogs, as well as the joy of being a dog owner.
Cody also loved going to nursing homes, and the elderly patients found great delight in playing with him, or merely patting his head. His calm nature brought peace to many residents who had given up their own dogs.
Cody often traveled with the SPCA's MASH Unit to fairs, spay/neuter clinics, rabies clinics and many school functions. He loved traveling in the MASH unit, and also loved riding along with Chief Gross in the side car of his motorcycle.
Please help us to keep Cody's memory alive by making a contribution to the Cody Foundation. Your tax-exempt gift will help us to provide services to all of the animals who cannot speak for themselves. Cody was generous in love, caring and giving, and our hope is that his Foundation will bestow that love and generosity to our pets and to the pets of those who struggle to provide the basic necessities to make their lives happy.
Chief Roy and Lois Gross express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have graciously offered their support and love to them in honor and in memory of Cody.
