Cause of the Month:

The Environment

Fitness

Spring is in the air and Earth Day is just around the corner! Our cause of the month for April is the environment, and we're featuring the importance of environmental sustainability and our own efforts to "go green" as an organization.

Did you know...
-Recycling 1 aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours.
-Environmental education can have positive effects on a child's character and encourages responsible behavior.

How we help the environment

We "go green" in all of our programs! For example, our 14th Street Y has been focused on issues of sustainability for the past two years, from composting in the building to community-supported agriculture. The new Manny Cantor building (scheduled to open in Fall 2013) will have a modern and highly energy-efficient infrastructure. Our after school programs also incorporate green education for school-aged kids through initiatives like the Boys & Girls Club Energy Star grant.
