After Losing His Vision,
Alfredo Became An Artist
63 year-old Alfredo Santiago has been legally blind for more than 20 years. After his diagnosis, he was forced to retire from his job in publishing. So, he decided to begin a second career as an artist, initially earning a college scholarship to study the visual arts and ultimately taking classes for many years at the Educational Alliance Art School. We helped him develop his artistic skills and eventually discover his new path.
Since then, Alfredo's career in the mediums of sculpture and painting has truly flourished. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, including a recent 12-year retrospective at the Harlem Gallery on 125th Street. He also expanded his repertoire to include abstract art, studying through a fellowship at the National Academy of Fine Arts. Currently, Alfredo is working on a major artwork installation in California.
