Cause of the Month: Visual Arts
|
|
Despite the unseasonably warm weather in New York City, winter typically calls for a switch from outdoor fun to indoor activities as we settle into a new year. The visual arts serve as an excellent outlet to explore your creativity and reinvigorate your spirit this season. This month, we're highlighting the importance of the visual arts for people of all ages.
Did you know... -Students who participate in the visual arts are three times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.
-Creative arts therapy helps people achieve higher self-esteem and express their emotions.
How we support the visual arts
We incorporate the visual arts -- painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, cartooning & more -- into virtually all of our programs in Downtown Manhattan. For example, in our early childhood programs, we help three and four year-olds explore their creativity through daily arts activities. For adults, our Art School offers an array of classes for varying skill levels and artistic mediums. Finally, our addiction treatment programs use the visual arts as a means of therapy and healing that supplements the overall recovery process.
