Cause of the Month: Homelessness

Bowl of Soup

December signals the start of winter and the holiday season, but for thousands of New Yorkers without a roof over their head, it can be a particularly tough time. This month, we're highlighting homelessness and its effects on children, adults and senior citizens across the city.

Did you know...
- A record-setting 113,553 homeless people slept in city shelters last year, an 8% increase from the previous year.

- The number of homeless students in NYC schools has increased by 400% since the start of the recession, from 10,000 to over 40,000 kids.

How we're helping the homeless in NYC

The Pride Sites, our residential communities for addiction recovery, provide a safe home for adults strugging with chemical dependencies -- many of whom were previously homeless. Our Project ORE serves homeless seniors with hot meals and support services that help them get back on their feet. As for youth, our after school programs help many homeless kids become honor rolls kids.
