A Historic Moment:

Rebuilding A Quintessential Urban Community Center

197 Project

Dear Supporters and Community Members,

We have exciting news! The Educational Alliance is planning to begin a gut renovation of its flagship building, located at 197 East Broadway, later this fall.

This 22-month renovation would be the first of its magnitude in the building's 122-year history and would allow us to better meet the needs of our dynamic Lower East Side neighborhood with revitalized classrooms, new art studios, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and modern multi-purpose space that allows us to expand our programming for all ages.

"This is truly an exciting moment in the history of the Educational Alliance," said Robin Bernstein, President & CEO of the Educational Alliance. "We are thrilled about the potential of this renovation to create a reinvigorated space to better serve our diverse community. The renovated building will offer brand new facilities that match the high quality of our programming, and will help create a true sense of community among all of our neighbors."

We expect to be able to confirm the renovation and temporary program locations by early October. General updates will be posted on our website. Current program participants and patrons can also contact their program staff with specific questions.

The Fall semesters of the Art School, the Parenting Center and our Early Childhood education programs (Early Head Start, Head Start, the Preschool and Child Care) will not be affected by the renovation.

Best Regards,
