Dear Colleague

Welcome to our first newsletter since the Christmas holidays. You may be surprised to know that Pintail survived the economic downturn of 2009 without losing any of our employees. We owe this to the support of our customers and partners around the world, and of course - our employees! In this newsletter, you will uncover a few hints as to how we did it.

Happy New Year

All of us at Pintail wish our friends around the world a Happy Chinese New Year. 2010 is the year of the tiger. We'd like to think of ourselves as having the vision and courage of the tiger.

We owe much of our success to the cooperation and partnership we have established with all the test subcontractors throughout Asia. Pintail laid out our vision for third party test software over 6 years ago. Many predicted that the industry was not ready for monitoring software to run on ATE systems installed at test floors operated by multiple service providers.

With your support, we have demonstrated what true entrepreneurship means - creating new technologies and business practices that improve our world. Today, semiconductor manufacturers can instantly view their test data in a common format no matter what tester or what test floor the data comes from. Pintail is installed on over 900 testers worldwide.

Thank you for your support and may your fortunes grow in the New Year!

Tired of Waiting for Tester Time?

It's a frustrating time for semiconductor manufacturers trying to keep up with the worldwide economic recovery. Production managers are unable to get delivery of new testers on order. Product and test engineers can't get test time in order to release critical new products. All of this impacts the top line at a time where revenue growth is most important.

Pintail can help. We can deliver additional capacity to you within 60 days for ten cents on the dollar! Think we are kidding??

We are experiencing a strong surge in demand for our capacity improvement solutions. Call or email me or your account manager and find out how we can help. See www.pintail.com for contact information.

Progress Report from Melexis

In our last newsletter we announced that Melexis (press release) had selected Pintail's TestScape system as part of their ongoing commitment to delivering the highest quality devices to their customers. The installation provides real-time monitoring of all of their approximately 300 testers spread across three countries in Europe.

I am happy to report that deployment is going very well after only 90 days from contract.

SPC flow chart for MLX

Pintail was able to quickly program the data translation module of SwifTest-Monitor to interface with various legacy testers operated by Melexis. The performance of SwifTest is so fast that dozens of Melexis testers are being monitored by a single instance of SwifTest on a server.

One of the key features making the implementation of SPC monitoring easier is the ability of TestScape to automatically generate recommended SPC control limits based upon historical production data. The user then has TestScape conduct a simulation of the proposed new controls using recent production data (See flow chart.) The capability of doing this before release to production avoids introducing triggers that are either overly sensitive or ineffective. Configuring new devices for SPC is fast and efficient.

With cooperation from our project manager at Melexis, we are working on a Case Study that will be available in a few months. The document will describe the success factors and issues that we learned during this important deployment.

Please forward this newsletter to anyone in your organization interested in learning more about on-line Adaptive Test, yield improvement, real-time monitoring or real-time data analysis. Drop me a note if you have recommendations for future topics of interest to you.

Sincerely,
Taylor Scanlon
