| Guiltless Salt |
|
Ye are the salt of the earth...(Mt.5:13) Interesting descriptive term Jesus used to describe us. The primary benefit of salt is that it preserves but the three-fold evidence of salt is that it leaves a residue, it subtly influences how everything tastes and most importantly, it creates thirst. ...Our daily question, how salty have you and I been today--creating thirst and leaving notable deposit?
This isn't a question to stir guilt or motivate a guilty response. In truth, your greatest tool for inspiring thirst is not a technique, an argument or any spiritual slight-of-hand, but simply living a life that radiates a thirsting heart.
I've always been told that dogs immediately sense fear and react. I am equally certain that any needy heart can similarly sense a genuine God-connection within your heart and mine. We are the salt of the earth. The Message Translation adds this to Mt.5:13, "...If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness?"
God has designed our lives to be salty. He plans each of us to bring a distinct fragrance to our various arenas of influence--a fragrance that any needy heart can immediately sense and respond to! ...And the greatest source of this salty influence? Not clever techniques or persuasive methods, but simply contagious personal thirst. Selah \o/ |
