Perseverance Is Overrated!

Perseverance, and steadfastness are all exceptional qualities. However, not all resolve and determination yields spiritual benefit. Any given Sunday afternoon, from any given football team on TV, you can witness qualities of grit and fortitude that do two things. A. They accomplish nothing spiritually and B. they greatly exceed the effort most believers put into their Christian walk.

Here's my point. These are all natural attributes that anyone can muster up if they resolve to... these natural qualities cannot produce a supernatural result unless the perseverance is through God's strength and not my own, unless the determination has a spirit engagement and is not simply an exercise of will power and personal mental tenacity.

Does your or my "enduring" include casting all our cares on Him? Is our resolve rooted in being anxious for nothing? Does our tenacity and doggedness reflect that His grace is sufficient? If not, we have missed the point and we will inevitably find the effort exhausting!

Actually, we are not saying the spiritual force of endurance is overrated; just don't confuse that which is only accomplished by and through the grace, the empowering of God with a natural human ability of tolerate. Selah. \o/
