| Greetings!
Karyn & I so appreciate you opening this weeks SelahGram. |
| Where Are You God? |
Ever felt so distant from God that you seemingly could find no evidence at that He had any interest in you? ...Every attempt at prayer was indeed a "long distance call." You felt like the perfect illustration and embodiment of adages like, "backside of the desert" and "remote Pacific island." I think I know your answer. Actually, we've all experienced this to one extent or another. Obviously, you aren't alone.
In truth, the Bible documents the accounts of many who faced this same personal crisis. We can read one of the most vivid in Psalms 22, as written by David. Do these Psalm 22 statements ring any familiar bells? "God, why have you forsaken me? ...So far from helping me? Day and night I'm restating my dilemma, yet you don't seem to hear." Or as the NLT states, "...God, why have You abandoned me? Why are You so far away when I groan for help? Every day I call to You, my God, but You do not answer. Every night You hear my voice, but I find no relief
. (Ps.22:1,2)
Amidst David's heartfelt appeal, he subtly interjects this vital clue & life-key that each of us must recognize and seize! He acknowledges God in this way, "O thou that inhabitest the fervent praises of Your people!"
Carefully consider what David is stating. 'God why have you abandoned me, (O thou that inhabits the high praises)? Day and night I'm crying out yet you don't seem to hear me, (You who dwells in our praises). You seem so distant, (You who inhabits my fervent praise, my worship).
In reality, David is making a crucial admission. He is not just distant from God, he is remote from God's habitation. He is not only declaring where God IS, but apparently where he IS NOT. It is also apparent that the separation is because, with all his outcry, there was no true praise! In other words, the distance was more David's fault than God's.
The great news: this is immediately correctable! Selah. \o/ P.S. Happy Birthday (again) to my bride of 33 yrs! I love you, Sweetheart! |
