Karyn & I so appreciate you opening this weeks SelahGram. |
| Witnessing Requires Encountering |
We have relegated "witnessing" to just being a verb! "Witness" is something you are, not just something you do. What qualifies you as a witness? You become a witness because you have encountered something, you've witnessed something! You are not a witness simply because you know someone who witnessed an event. At a trial in a court of law, the testimony of the eyewitness is conclusive and hearsay testimony is not truly testimony.
Being a "witness" starts with a personal encounter of some sort--personally observing. (If you're recounting someone else's experience, you aren't truly a witness--you are an echo.)
Conveying Jesus is more than just a script to be followed... ("For all have sinned & the wages of sin are death & if you will confess with your mouth... and you're gonna love this vacuum cleaner!") Conveying Jesus is something your life illustrates and reflects because you've personally witnessed Him! Peter declares it this way, " We are not following after cunningly devised fables...[and how do he know this?] but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty!"
When accosted by the religious folks about "technicalities," the healed man of Jn.9 declares this, "I know not, but one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see!" The personal witness provided indisputable evidence against which there was no argument.
Is "witnessing" is a challenge for you? If so, emphasize the "encounter" part, and becoming an eyewitness will be automatic! Selah. \o/
