| What Makes Our Prayer Different? |
Every religion has its own form of 'prayer' and its own process of communication or offering toward its god. Each has its own system for submitting both requests and hopeful appeasement... So what makes our prayer different? Is "faith" the difference? Actually, every religion has its fervent believers, its ardent, to-the-death faithful.
The one thing that makes us different, the one difference about what we call prayer is personal encounter--true access to a secret place. While each of us from time to time presents a "list" of discussion points, prayer is not about that list. It is not about getting His attention, soliciting His favor or even somehow appeasing His anger. It is all about authorized access!
If our understanding of prayer revolves around our list, then we are merely fulfilling the same required duty with the same drudgery as any religious entreaty. It's no different!
The deciding factor for Peter: I'm an eyewitness of His majesty! Jesus preceded His Mt.6 prayer guide with this instruction, 'Whenever you pray, enter your secret place and shut the door...!' (Paraphrased)
Today... make the time at some point to leave your list at the door for a moment and cultivate this difference... this remarkable privilege. Selah! \o/
