| What Makes the Devil Desperate to Escape? |
The Bible contains many examples illustrating the essential nature of both the vertical and the horizontal aspects of our spiritual walk, both as ministers and as believers. James 4 offers one of the best.
Jas.4:7,8 NKJV Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
There are those who honestly attempt to resist the devil's influence and attraction but without first truly drawing near to God, which renders the resistance powerless and futile--an effort in willpower and hope alone. It is similarly possible to try to draw near to God without engaging the horizontal.
Any genuine face-to-face with Father will yield a horizontal response! True worship produces change, from glory to glory, which will always find expression in and through our lives and calling.
Indeed some are quick to resist w/o first drawing near and others try to draw near w/o ever seeking to enter the fray and raise their swords. Still others accomplish both. One other category includes the multitudes that do neither. This motionless, stagnant condition comes either from a spectator mentality or from confusion as to when to resist and when to embrace.
The greatest resistance begins with worship... genuine, wholehearted worship! Resistance that makes the devil desperate to escape starts with submitting unreservedly to Father--drawing near to Him--(and cannot be achieved without it!) Selah.\o/
