Leadership 101 (Gods Perspective)

Why didn't God allow Moses to lead Israel into their land of promise? What kept him out? What provoked God's Deut.32:52 decree? "...You shall see the land before you, though you shall not go there, into the land which I am giving to the children of Israel."

It was not just Moses' striking of the rock or his re-occurring anger problem that kept him from the promised land. Though these were surface results, the root cause is very interesting. Having appointed Moses as leader of the nation, God had a primary leadership requirement that Moses failed to fulfill. He didn't demonstrate worship in front of those he was leading, therefore he was disqualified from leading them into the promise. Of course, he graduated to a much greater prize but wasn't allowed this last leadership privilege. We find the severity of Moses' failure similarly described in several references.

Deut.32:51 NKJV ...Because you trespassed against Me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin, because you did not hallow Me in the midst of the children of Israel. (NIV ...You broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites.)

Num 20:12 NLT But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, Because you did not trust Me enough to demonstrate My holiness to the people of Israel, (MSG didn't treat me with holy reverence in front of the People) you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!

Num 27:14 NKJV For in the Wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My command to hallow Me at the waters before their eyes.
