News Update

Greetings!

Here is a quick update on what's going on in the Johnson City District.

Czech Missions News

Speakers, Teams, Events, New Church Start

With a new year comes a lot of exciting news related to our In Mission Together Partnership with the Czech Republic.

In February and March, mission team members will travel across the district to share with each congregation the exciting work we are doing alongside the United Methodist congregations of the Czech Republic. We are forming mission teams to travel to the Czech Republic this year, and already have several FUNdraising events scheduled. We will even be partnering with the Czech District to start a new English-Speaking United Methodist Church in Prague!

Resurrection Baskets

Reaching Local (At-Risk) Children and Youth

Many local children are in danger of being raised without the Word of God. As they grow older they many not have heard the Good News that Jesus Loves them.

Good Samaritan Ministries is reaching out to local children and youth who have parents incarcerated in Carter County, Washington County and Johnson City jails.

2011 Confirmation Retreat

March 11 and 12 at Buffalo Mountain Camp

Looking for a more affordable and convenient alternative to the confirmation retreat held at Lake Junaluska each year? Spend two days with your youth at Buffalo Mountain Camp while they experience all things camp and learn more about their faith! This retreat will cover three lessons of "Credo" confirmation resource materials published by Cokesbury.

Hands-On Mission Project

Prepare School Kits for Zimbabwe

In 2009 we were challenged by Holston Conference to assemble 300 School Kits. We TRIPLED that goal by collecting 902 kits! In 2010 we DOUBLED our goal of 400 by donating 801! This year, we have been asked to assemble 300 kits to be sent to Ishe Anesu in Zimbabwe. Let's see how many we can collect this year!

Marriage Enrichment Retreat

March 18 - 20
Buffalo Mountain Retreat Center

The seventh annual Marriage Enrichment Retreat for Couples in Ministry in Holston Conference will be held

at the Buffalo Mountain Retreat Center on March 18-20, 2011. The event is design to provide quality time

for clergy couples during a weekend away from work and family responsibilities.

All costs for housing, meals, and leadership are covered by the Board of Ordained Ministry and the Holston Nurture Team.
