The runner-up of this competition was Jonah Ellsworth, a 16-year-old cellist who is an 11th grade student at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Jonah is a cello student of Natasha Brofsky.

Zlatomir Fung, a sixth-grader at Mill Pond School in Westborough, MA, studies cello with Emmanuel Feldman at the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division. He is a member of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the String Chamber Orchestra at NEC Prep.  Zlatomir is an avid chamber music player and he has been a member of chamber ensembles at both BYSO and NEC Preparatory Division for several years.  He looks very much forward to playing more chamber music in summer programs at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Luzerne Music Center, and Greenwood Music Camp.

The Young Artist Competition is held annually to promote and encourage young musicians from the Greater Boston area interested in the performance and study of chamber music. The winner performs in a public concert with the Walden Chamber Players and receives a cash prize. The competition is open to young string or woodwind players. The Walden Chamber Players Young Artist Competition is uniquely designed to encourage young musicians with an interest in chamber music. The competition consists of two rounds. Contestants who advance to the final round must be prepared to play an assigned chamber music work with members of the Walden Chamber Players. The contestants are not judged only on their technical and musical ability but also on their ability to play and work within a group. The final round is open to the public.

The Walden Chamber Players wishes to thank Johnson String Instrument of Newton, MA, for its generous sponsorship of the Young Artist Competition.
