More vendors - even more shoppers!
The  market keeps going and going ...

You will read in Friday's  Tribune Star that Downtown Terre Haute, Inc.  will no longer be able to fund an Executive Director (me!) -  but rest assured that the market will continue.

One of our strongest and most successful projects, the Downtown Farmers Market is
healthy, growing, and firmly established.

Things will stay the same through the end of this season.

Next year, the Market may be organized again by DTH, or it could become an independent entity led by the Steering Committee, or perhaps it will come under the wing of a group such as Terre Foods.

I have no doubt that the market will continue to grow this season (read on!), and will be even better in the coming years.

The market's success is due to our excellent vendors, and our enthusiastic and loyal patrons - and neither of those are going to change!

More t-shirts

So many vendors, and so many customers who want to buy them - we had to place a second order.

Vendors get first dibs, then we'll offer them to the public.

I have a small number of children's sizes this time - but let me know quickly quickly if you want them!

Market location

During the Brickyard BBQ on July 17th, we held the Market in 9th Street - and we had a lot of positive comments from vendors and shoppers.

More new vendors!

Welcome Owen Gingerich from Rockome Foods - bringing baked goods, produce, and cheese from Arcola, Illinois.

Sonya and Simeon Young, selling their new BugOut  organic/natural pest control products, made from natural oils.

The Terre Haute South Vigo High School Spirettes will be joining us with baked goods - and Indian vegetables from the garden of Aruna Namburi, who is helping the girls organize this effort to raise money for their dance team.  This could usher in a whole new niche of produce!

My own "Forbidden Flavors" will feature small samples of unusual and unexpected ice cream flavors - using ingredients bought at the market whenever possible:.  This week: Sweet Corn, Tomato Olive Oil, and Ricotta Cheese!

Other new/recent vendors:

Karen Paulsen from Illinois: Fruits and veggies

Char-lu Farms from Centerpoint, with their humanely-raised veal.

Christy Rose - Handmade soaps and scrubs.

Sarah Campbell - breads, veggies, and art.

Amy Wyeth - Jellies, veggies breads, and more.

Donald Mann - Blackberries and produce.

SFMNP Vouchers
(deposit with your bank - like a check)

Some customers will bring $3 vouchers to the market.

The vouchers can be accepted only by vendors participating in the State of Indiana's Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

Income-eligible recipients get six-$3 vouchers (total of $18 for the season) to purchase fruits and veggies from designated vendors.  Approved vendors receive a  SFMNP poster to show shoppers that their booth is an eligible place to use their vouchers.

Remember: no cash is to be given for change, and you can accept the vouchers only for eligible items (basically fruits and vegetables).

The 2010 vouchers are LAVENDER

See me for details, or to join the program.  Or click here to download the rules and the application.

WICAA Coupons
(Turn these in to me or Zeph - and WICAA will mail you a check)

Another voucher is being distributed by the West Central Indiana Community Action Agency (WICAA), through a $5,000 federal stimulus grant.

Here's what the vouchers look like:

WICAA DFM Voucher
Income eligible shoppers will use theseto buy fresh fruits and veggies. To keep it simple, the rules mirror the FMNP program.  (see above)

The main difference is that you don't deposit these WICAA vouchers in the bank.  Simply sign them, and give them to me.  I will submit them to WICAA on Mondays, and you should have a check by the following Friday.

Don't accept any wooden nickels...yet!
Wooden Nickel chris gambill
If you like the idea, we could order some wooden nickels to give away - printed with some sort of special offer - maybe a $2 discount on a $5+ purchase, a free give-away, or something else (any ideas?)

It might be fun to have a pocket full of these to distribute at other events...
