CEO Corner

 Sue Stewart, CEO

This month- I am delegating my article to Kathleen Coulter, Girl Scout Alumna and summer student intern. It has been a pleasure working with her and I want you to hear from her about all the reasons girls benefit from Girl Scouting, and how her Girl Scout Leadership Experience inspired her!

Submitted by:  Kathleen Coulter

COURAGE, HONESTY, RESPONSIBILITY. These aren't just words that we spout when reciting the Girl Scout Law. These are values that we share as a sisterhood. They're principles that I remember learning and practicing 19 years ago as a Daisy Scout. I grew up with the Girl Scouts. I learned what it meant to be a woman and a leader, to take advantage of every opportunity, to dream big. Girl Scouting encouraged exploration, ambition, and achievement - and remains today the organization devoted to girl empowerment.

It was in high school, through my work on my Silver and Gold Awards, that I developed an interest in the environment. I was 14 when I became a Leave No Trace trainer and 17 when I coordinated a biodiversity project at Florida Gulf Coast University. I just got back from a year of teaching English on a Pacific island threatened by climate change and I will be pursuing an education in environmental law this fall. Girl Scouts gave me the skills and the confidence to succeed, and the social awareness to make the world a better place - another aspect of the Girl Scout Law!

Regards,

Sue & Kathleen

Everyone Can Help Reach Our Goal with Family Support Plan!

Family Support Plan (FSP) is a key way for families to support their girl's troop experience, to help the leader do more activities with the troop, give the gift of Girl Scouting to others, and to support the Girl Scout mission.

All programs sponsored by the council have specific program outcomes so you can be sure that your Girl Scout gets the full Girl Scout Leadership Experience every time she participates. Because no girl is the same, customizing the Girl Scout experience and letting the girl choose how she participates in Girl Scouts gives her control over her Girl Scout Leadership Experience.  Each program and activity she participates in will encourage her and help her gain confidence in her skills and ability to be the girl she wants to be.
Girl Scouting builds girls of Courage, Confidence and Character who make the world a better place.  Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. is chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA and serves over 10,500 girls in ten counties including: Manatee, Hardee, Highlands, Sarasota, DeSoto, Charlotte, Glades, Lee, Hendry, and Collier.
