Actual campaign artifacts are shown on camera while
reproductions of photos, political cartoons, maps,
charts and ballots are sent ahead of time to be in the
hands of students. A museum educator leads the
class in an inquiry-based examination of the most
important presidential campaigns. Questions of
issues vs. image, and strategy vs. circumstance are
the focus as students learn how to analyze artifacts,
political cartoons, and photos.

Superdelegates, electoral college, popular vote,
democrat, republican, campaign, debates, candidate,
caucus, primaries...What's it all mean?? Teams of
students will compete against each other as they
answer questions about the election process, the
history of past elections, voting requirements and
responsibilities, candidates, and more.
Teachers will
also be given the opportunity to submit their own
questions for students in our Teacher's Choice
category. This is a great opportunity for teachers to
test and inform their students about the concepts and
events of the Presidential elections of the past and
present.
For the second consecutive year, the Ohio Historical
Society has been honored with the Teacher's Choice
Award as being one of the top Historical
Museum/Organization Distance Learning Content
Providers for the 2007 - 2008 school year, by teachers
around the United States.

As America votes for a new president in this
November's monumental election, other democracies
worldwide are undergoing competitive electoral races
of their own.
In this special extended PULSE series, students will
examine the meaning of democracy through the lens
of campaigns both at home and abroad. Students will
have the opportunity to discuss and debate aspects of
American democracy, all while putting the U.S.
presidential race in the context of the international
community.
After the U.S. elections, students will have the unique
opportunity meet their peers in Ghana, which is in the
midst of presidential campaigning as well in
preparation for its December election. Over a period of
three conferences, students will get to know one
another and discuss the similarities and differences
between American and Ghanaian democracy.
By connecting face-to-face with their peers around the
country and around the world and a host of experts on
political participation, election observing and more,
students will assume a unique role in this
year's elections as local citizens with a distinctly
global perspective.

The puppet and learning activities for this program
can be modified to suit the participating age
group.
Students build a Spider Marionette
while participating in learning activities about how
spiders and insects differ, web vs. wandering spiders,
and the lifecycle of a spider. This is a great interactive
arts and science lesson in one!
For the third year in a row, the Center for Puppetry Arts
has won the Teacher's Choice Award for Best
Content Provider--Fine Arts Museum distance
learning program.

To request any video conference,
complete and
fax in the ACELINK Content/Program Request
Form.
The form is available through the ACELINK website, or you can contact us
at
481-0741 (office) or schaufes@ipfw.edu.
If a program is already scheduled, we will
fill
requests on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please
make sure your school schedule matches the
program's dates and times.
If a program is offered on demand, you'll
need to provide two to three dates and times
you
would prefer when you request the program.
ACELINK funds are available to pay content
provider fees for up to three video
conferences
per teacher. Please contact me if you have
a special circumstance that requires more
funding.
Note: We must have an ACELINK
Content/Program Request Form completed in
order to
approve a request for a video conference.

supply kit, and they are highly interactive.
