 |
|
Only 1 program slot available. Filled on
a first-come, first-served basis.
Title: Don't Give Me Any Bull
Content Provider: McMillen Center for
Health Education
Grades: 3-4 (will customize)
Date: April 21, 2008
Time: 9 - 9:30 AM EST
Youth will learn how to reduce their risk of
being the target of a bully. Techniques for
handling a bullying situation are presented.
These techniques include naming the behavior
as bullying, handling the situation in an
assertive manner, leaving the situation as
soon as possible and reporting the situation to
an adult.
Teaching young people to handle stress or
anger, stand up tall, speak assertively will help
them avoid becoming the target of a bully.
Because most children will never be either
target of a bully or the bully, health educators
will also introduce the idea of being an active
bystander who can impact the situation in a
safe manner.
To sign up, fill out the ACELINK Request Form
and fax it to 481-6949.

23 Classes Participate in Read Across the Planet |
|
|
|
Students and teachers from 23 Allen County,
Indiana elementary, middle and high school
classes were paired with partner classes for a
virtual Read Across the Planet event in
February. This was a record participation for
ACELINK schools!
According to Dawn Dykes, 4th grade
teacher at Adams Elementary, "Read Around
the Planet was great! The kids loved it and it
worked out well. Thanks for helping us
coordinate to make this happen. We are
looking forward to doing it next year if
possible!"
Beth Peters, teacher at Bishop Dwenger High School,
said, "Our matching class was perfect! We are going
to continue our collaboration with them beyond this
program."
ACELINK supports the program by helping with
registration and scheduling because it is a
great teacher and student collaboration
project. Teachers are matched with partners
from all over the US, and they work together to
develop a 45-minute program shared by their
two classes.
We'd like to give credit to Mark Resor from
Fort Wayne Community Schools for setting up
22 of the programs and equipment. You are a
two-way video hero!
Next year's virtual Read Across the Planet
program will be held in early February. For
more information, you can visit their web site
at: http://www.twic
e.cc/read/.
