"Glory be to God for
dappled things"
(from "Pied Beauty" G.M. Hopkins) |
Spring views from the diocese's Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center in Greenfield, N.H., anticipate the opening of the summer camp season in June. There's still time to register youth for one or more weeks of camp. Financial aid is available to campers, with applications due June 1. Find information and forms on the center's new Web site here.
Interim summer camp director Matt Lindeman sends this message of invitation: "We here at the Barbara C. Harris Camp are thrilled to partner with you this summer in the mission of Christian formation for you r children and youth, as we host week-long summer sessions oriented toward the formation of authentic community and meaningful relationships between campers and our staff, while doing so in a context that allows us to celebrate the Eucharist, explore various forms of prayer and worship and thoughtfully reflect together on what the Spirit is saying to us through Scripture, and through the lives and examples of holy women and holy men. We do this while also having a lot of fun exploring nature, developing leadership skills, playing games and enjoying classic summer camp activities, from arts programs to archery to canoe dodgeball! "I'm excited to welcome hundreds of youth back to our camp, and invite you to consider sending your kids to camp, where they will join other kids their age from across the diocese and throughout the region. Our campers are constantly making new connections between their own lives and the experiences of others, all while growing in faith, one action-packed day at a time."

"Walk to Stock" food pantries: St. Andrew's Church in Hanover and Trinity Church in Rockland are teaming up for a Saturday, May 19 "Walk to Stock" their local food pantries. The six-mile pledge walk between St. Andrew's and Trinity will follow Route 139. The fundraiser is the inspiration of Trinity parishioner Donna Reed. "Donna has done this before, and having her energy and her experience behind this effort is just crucial to its success," the Rev. Sarah Brockmann, Rector of Trinity Church, said. "There's a lot of legwork that goes into an event like this--seeking sponsors, organizing volunteers, getting permissions. And it's such an important effort, especially around here. I think all of us know someone who has used the food pantry in the past couple of years, so when we support the food pantry, we're really supporting our friends and neighbors." Read more here.
Also walking the walk: Three deaneries of the diocese-- Neponset River, Taunton River and South Shore--were group sponsors of the recent "Stepping Out" Memorial Walk for Old Colony Hospice, pledging $1,100 toward the fundraising goal of $100,000 to provide free end-of-life care to those in need of it.
