Ask an Engineer

Q:
Why is a breather tube used in cable?

A: A breather tube used to allow submersed cavities, sensors and transmitters to "breathe" to the atmosphere, or transport inert gases in closed systems. The breather tube is designed not to crack when subjected to cold bend and mechanical tests typically specified for the cable.
