Post Event - Summary

Dr. Irwin Kreisman

Classification: Dentist

At last week's luncheon Dr. Kreisman started his craft talk by telling members how to live longer.

He advised members of a study that showed people who have their teeth professionally cleaned at least once a year cut their risk of heart attack by 24% and their risk of stroke by 13% compared with those who never had their teeth cleaned.

He then shared with members the results of a 2010 study which found that brushing teeth at least twice a day can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by as much as 70%.  Not brushing

properly or enough causes plaque to build up on your teeth  which leads to gum disease.  The bacteria enter the bloodstream through the gums.  It is thought that the bacteria causes the

artery walls to become chronically inflamed which can trigger heart attacks or strokes.  The bacteria may also contribute to the build up of fatty deposits in the bloodstream which can also

lead to heart problems.  During a professional tooth cleaning Dr. Kreisman removes the tartar or calculus and plaque that lead to gum inflammation and periodontal disease which reduces the areas of plaque and bacteria colonies.  Brushing and flossing every day also reduces the bacteria in the mouth and gum inflammation.

Dr Kreisman then went on to remind members of the services he is able to provide at his world headquarters located at 225 Metcalfe St. (between Somerset and Cooper).  Some of these services include:

  • Fillings (mostly tooth coloured)
  • Bleaching Treatments (to whiten & brighten your smile)
  • Porcelain Veneers & Crowns
  • Full & Partial Dentures
  • Gum Treatments
  • Periodontal Surgery
  • Root Canals
  • Tooth Extractions
  • Implants

Dr. Kreisman finished up his presentation by telling those in attendance a bit about both his educational background and his family.

He did his undergraduate degree, a BSC, at McGill and then graduated from McGill University Dental School in 1978.  The following 2 years were spent in postgraduate training at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal before opening a private practice.  During his 10 years in private practice Dr. Kreisman also taught as a clinical instructor at McGill in restorative dentistry.

In 1981, he moved to Ottawa with his wife Audrey and took over the practice of the late Alan Buckley. Dr. Kreisman has three children, Sarah 23, Arielle 21 and Joshua 19 who are all

currently attending University.

Dr. Kreisman and his staff feel that good dental health is the result of a partnership between informed patients and dedicated professionals who understand what it takes to provide the best. They are dedicated to providing their patients with the highest standard of dental care in a clean modern facility with a caring and supportive attitiude.

If you, your friends or staff are without a dentist, or are unhappy where you are and are looking for a new happy dental home contact Dr. Kreisman's office at (613)235-4289.
