Post Event - Summary

Onsite - Kunstadt Sports

Classification: Sporting Goods - Retail

After several consecutive days of rain, mother nature provided OXA members with a beautiful day for last week's onsite at Kunstadt Sports.  With the sun shining and temperatures in the mid 20s, approximately 20 OXA members arrived onsite early to partake in a bike ride organized by Eric and Ron.

During the meeting, Eric introduced his father Peter who told members the brief history of how Kunstadt Sports began.  With a family who was very much into tennis and realizing that he was constantly spending money to have their racquets restrung, Peter decided to invest in a stringing machine in order to keep up.  From there he decided to try his hand at doing tune ups on the family's skis during the winter season and soon found that he was doing tune ups for not just his family, but also their friends and neighbours and so began Kunstadt Sports.

All these years later the business is now run by Peter's sons Eric and Ron, but Kunstadt's number one focus remains the same - personal service.  Even though the business now has approximately 75 employees and has outgrown the family's basement they still try to make sure that every customer has the feeling of being in a family business.

The company now has three locations in the Ottawa area which specialize in snow sports (skiing/snow boarding), cycling and tennis.  Below are a few of the products/services they offer.

Snow Sports:

  • they offer a wide selection of skis and snowboards to meet the needs of all customers
  • they have a huge selection of skis in the full spectrum of abilities, whether you are new to the sport, or an experienced racer
  • they carry a large selection of Nordic ski equipment in both the "classic" and "skate" ski varieties
  • thier snowboard department carries an array of boards in both "freestyle" and "free-ride" styles
  • they provide tune-ups and binding calibrations for their customers

Cycling:

  • high end road bikes for the long distance enthusiast
  • fully suspended downhill bikes for the adrenaline "junkie"
  • hybrid and cross-country bikes for the more conventional cyclist
  • a variety of sizes, including a wide selection of children's and youth bicycles
  • top quality maintenance and repairs on bikes including basic maintenance check-ups to full overhauls

Tennis:

  • Ottawa's #1 source for all tennis and racquet sport needs
  • their goal is to deliver a variety of goods and services to the tennis community, including a complete spectrum on racquets, clothing, shoes, balls, string, grips and service
  • they guarantee a 24 hour return on your racquet stringing as well as many demo racquets for your shopping convenience
  • they encourage you to "try before you buy" to ensure a perfect fit
