Craft Talk Speaker: Stephen Simcox of Power Displays & Exhibits

Menu: Seasonal Mixed Greens, Honey Citrus Chicken and Lemon Pie

Post Event - Summary

James Dubroy of James R. Dubroy Ltd (at the IEA Conference)

James R. Dubroy is a Business Broker and in that capacity he helps owners of privately held businesses through the buying and selling process.  James also provides his clients with business valuations and is a Certified Management Consultant.

At last week's luncheon meeting held during the IEA Conference at the Ottawa Convention Centre, James spoke to those in attendance about "How to Increase the Selling Value of Your Business."

James talked about the selling value of a business versus the selling price of a business and then went on to outline the differences between the two.  He then explained that individuals interested in buying a business will look for value in the profits and will be turned off by significant risk.  James provided examples of the elements that contribute to a business' profits and also its risks then outlined several steps that could be taken to help increase profits and mitigate (or decrease) risks.

If you would like to learn more about the valuation process and how it would pertain to your business or any of the other services that James R. Dubroy Ltd has to offer and how they may fit your needs contact James Dubroy at (613)235-6166.

IEA Conference - Summary

Last week's IEA Conference hosted by The Ottawa Executives' Association was a resounding success.  The Conference, which was

held at the newly opened Ottawa Convention Centre, was attended by approximately 85 participants.

The festivities began Monday evening (September 19th), with Registration, the Conference Kick-Off Reception and a member

trade show.

Tuesday was a jam packed day filled with great networking opportunites and informational breakout sessions.  Some of the

days' activities included opening ceremonies, a breakfast of champions, group photo, regional meeetings, a lunchtime keynote

speaker and to finish off the day, the OXA's 75th Anniversary Gala (see the Gala Summary for futher details on this great event!).

Although Wednesday was the last day of the conference, there was an energetic buzz in the air and still lots of great opportunities for learning and making connections.  After a hearty breakfast and introduction of the International Executives' Association's new Board of Directors, conference attendees had a chance to participate in additional breakout sessions.  Lunch was followed by an enlightening craft talk by the OXA's very own James Dubroy, a spirited closing keynote talk by Toni Newman and conference closing ceremonies.

Thank you to all those who contributed to making this event such a success and also to those who took the time out of their busy schedules to participate!

OXA 75th Anniversary Gala - Summary

I think our President Mardi Friesz said it best...

"75 Years!  What a way to celebrate.  A Conference and Gala that joins the Ottawa Executives' Association and many of our International Friends."

And celebrate we did!

Last week on September 20th, approximately 250 OXA members, IEA Conference attendees and their guests gathered in the Ottawa Convention Centre's Trillium Ballroom to celebrate the

Ottawa Executives' Association's 75 years as an ogranization.

Attendees and their guests were greeted upon thier arrival by Thom Bourne and his lovely wife Sandra and were then encouraged to partake in the cocktail reception which provided participants an opportunity to reaquaint with old friends and connect with new ones.

Gala Reception

The evening's festivities started with a welcome from both the IEA President, Mike Mitchell and OXA President, Mardi Friesz.  Opening ceremonies continued with the singing of the American National anthem and then the Canadian National anthem during which the ballroom curtains were raised to show a spectacular view of the Ottawa skyline (including the Parliament buildings) at sunset.

After a wonderful meal and awards to those OXA members with 25 or more years in the organization, the ladies in attendance tried their luck (with some help from Mike at Heritage Locksmith) at winning a diamond donated by Jubilee Fine Jewellers (see below to find out who the lucky lady was).

The remainder of the evening was spent with attendees dancing the night away to the sounds of the Mick Armitage Band and Canadian Fiddle Champion Louis Schryer.  Members and their guests were also enterained by Louis' daughter Kaitlyn Schryer who is recognized as one the best traditional step dancers in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
