Post Event - Summary | |
Cori (Hofford) Poon of Cartier Place Suite Hotel
Cori started her craft talk last week by giving members a brief history of the Cartier Place Suite Hotel. The Cartier Towers Apartment Hotel was opened in 1973. It was designed and built by Mr. & Mrs. Stutz (Heidi's parents) in 1973. The Stutz's are also responible for providing us with the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the Nepean Sportsplex. Although Mr. Stutz is no longer alive, Mrs. Stutz is currently living in one of the hotel's retirement suites and still has an active roll in the hotel. In 1986 the Cartier Place Hotel was built and started operating in 1987. In 1989 the name of the Cartier Place Hotel was changed to include Suite in the name. The Towers Apartment Hotel, mostly occupied by DND, was likewise renamed to the Cartier Towers Suite Hotel. A new addition linking the two buildings was built in 1988 and in 2007 the hotel started offering Retirement Suites in the Towers portion of the hotel which is now known as the Cartier Place Suite Hotel and Residence.
The Cartier Place Suite Hotel has many services available to accommodate all types of clients including hotel rooms, restaurant and banquet facilities, fitness facilities and tour packages just to name a few.
All of Cartier's 250 suites have their own balcony, pull out couch and fully equipped kitchen which helps to make travelling with a family more affordable and allows families on a budget the opportunity to stay at a downtown hotel when it may not have otherwise been possible. Cori discussed with members the features that Cartier can provide and/or has available to help make their guest's stay at the hotel more enjoyable such as:
- kid friendly check-in
- business centre
- Wi-Fi
- in room movies
- pool, sauna, whirlpool
- kids indoor playroom and outdoor playground
- complimentary board games
- outdoor patio
- pet friendly
Because Cartier is a family owned and operated hotel you know who you are dealing with. As a smaller company they do not have the corporate structure to follow and therefore have the ability to accomodate clients on the basis of their individual needs. Cori talked about how being a smaller hotel gives them the advantage to participate in local community events as well as being able to offer some other benefits to their guests such as family BBQ nights (Cartier provides the BBQ and the propane and the hotel guests provide the food and utensils) which you definitely wouldn't find offered at any local chain hotel.
New for 2011, the Cartier is undergoing some renovations. These renovations are not only being done in their hotel and guest suites, but also to their tour packages and website.
If you would like to learn more about the Cartier Place Suite Hotel visit them on the web at www.suitedreams.com. To take advantage of being a tourist in your own town and book a "Staycation" contact Lily (Cori's replacement while she is on maturnity leave) at (613)236-5000.
