IEA Conference Update (Thom Bourne) 

 

At last week's meeting, Thom Bourne provided members with an update on the planning status for the 2011 International Executives' Association Conference.  Below are some of the highlights he mentioned:

  • Dates for the conference have been set for September 19, 20 and 21, 2011.
  • Cartier Place Suite Hotel and The Westin have been chosen as the 2 official hotels for the conference.
  • The Ottawa Convention Centre has been chosen as the location for the conference and the contract will be signed shortly.
  • Conference registration will start on May 1, 2011.

Thom also discussed the different committees that have been put in place to help with the organization of the conference and introduced the Leadership Team committee members. Each Committee Chair was given a few minutes to introduce their Committee Members and provide a brief summary of what the committee is currently working on as well as what they have planned as we move closer to the conference dates.


Communications Committee - The Chair is Lissa Constantine and her current committee members include: Mike O'Brien, Brian Matheson, Paul Drouin and Craig MacKay.  The Committee's goal is to create a marketing structure which can be used to broadcast information about the conference in consistent ways.  They have already created and submitted several logo designs which will be used throughout the advertising and promotional materials such as the invitation to other associations, the OXA and IEA websites, the registrations website and promotional packages sent with travelling OXA members.  Moving forward the committee will be working to develop a concrete plan that will help to brand the conference both before and during the conference.


International Marketing - The Chair for this committee is Adrian Spitzer and he is asking OXA members who will be travelling over the next few months to join his committee.  Adrian is currently promoting the conference to other Associations through the connections he has made at past conferences as well as through his connections as an IEA Board member.  He is asking travelling OXA members to attend the breakfast or lunch meeting of the Association chapter near them in order to promote the upcoming conference.  He is in the process of putting together a conference media package to help with this task.


Local Marketing Committee - The Committee Chair is Aimee Dupuis and her current committee members are Craig MacKay and Marlon Oneid.  There are currently no large scale plans for this committee as they are working in conjunction with the Communications Committee and are waiting for some things to be finalized there before they can move forward.  On a smaller scale, Aimee has been talking with the producers from both A Morning and Rogers and has secured promotional spots on both shows once we are ready to launch the local campaign.  She has also spoken to one of her contacts who has agreed to produce a promotional video (free of charge) which will be used on the web, LinkedIn and various other locations to help promote the Conference.  The next steps for this committee is to look into applying for some of the $5 million in funds that the government will be infusing into local tourism, specifically local conferences.


Program Committee - The Chair of this Committee is Pauline Fleming and her committee members are Geoff Carter, Michael Scrivens, Brian MacGregor, Irwin Kreisman, Mario Bellerose, James Dubroy and Wayne French.  The committee is in the process of promoting speaking opportunities at the conference and currently have  issued a "Call for Speakers" for both OXA members and external speakers.  The deadline for the submission of "Call for Speakers" forms is March 17th in order to allow the committee to review them and make a selection prior to the final agenda due date in early April.

IEA 2011 Conference:
The IEA Programming Committee is inviting members of the Ottawa Executives' Association to submit a proposal if they would like to speak at the upcoming IEA Conference.  Potential speaking opportunities include: keynotes, breakouts sessions and expert round table moderators for the Breakfast of Champions networking event.  If you would like to be considered for one of these opportunities click here to download your application form (PDF, Word).  Submit completed forms to the IEA Programming Committee by March 17, 2011.  Auditions for OXA members will be held on Thursday, March 24th at the weekly luncheon.  For additional information please contact Pauline Fleming at (613) 688-3518.
