At last week's luncheon Chris talked about
how residuals on lease returns have
changed over the last year. He explained how
in the past lease returns were coming back
with ridiculously over priced lease amounts.
This was because the lease return was being
valued using only the black book value.
Dealers have begun to realize that over
valuing vehicles doesn't work. In the last
year things have changed and now dealers are
using not only about 80-90% of the black book
value (instead of the previously used
100-110%), they are also cross referencing
the values of vehicles with the automotive
auctions to get a realistic view of what
cars are going for.
Currently used vehicles are bigger business
than new ones. Hertz/Surgenor National
Leasing have vast and unlimited sources for
product as they are a national company and
therefore have national access to vehicles as
well as to the Hertz rental fleets. They

such as: the lease of new and used vehicles,
a lease to own program, a guarantee buy back
