Craft Talk by Thom Bourne of Nutri-Lawn Ottawa

Nutri-Lawn Ottawa believes in simple things. Like delivering what they promise. To them that means a commitment to service and communication. Their legacy and reputation is built upon the fact that they have always been the innovator in their category. Today, they lead the industry with their Organics Plus and Traditional lawn solutions. Since Nutri-Lawn Ottawa's inception over twenty years ago, they have believed in, and professionally delivered, ecology friendly lawn care.

When you become a Nutri-Lawn customer your lawn becomes their home. They will create a lawn care solution that is customized to your needs and its requirements. Together with you, they will create a program that is appropriate for your lawn and its particular circumstances. And every step of the way you will be informed, and experience, how Nutri-Lawn makes your lawn rich,
    lush and healthy.

Nutir-Lawn's commitment is simple: they create beautiful, lush lawns for their customers, while treating them to a level of service second to none. They have a true commitment to serving their customers and believe that their values drive their actions. The trust and confidence
of Nutri-Lawn's customers is of utmost importance to
their entire team, and they work tirelessly to earn and maintain it.

Nutri-Lawn is dedicated to creating beautiful, healthy lawns while minimizing or even eliminating the use of pesticides and other chemicals. Their ecologically friendly approach to lawn and soil care promotes healthy, green lawns with the use of organic or all-natural products. Nutri-Lawn don't blanket-spray control products like many other lawn care companies do; such products are used in a targeted, controlled manner and only when and where needed. As the leader in ecology friendly lawn care services, Nutri-Lawn takes great care to use effective products that are specifically designed to align with the needs and requirements around the living environment today.

With Nutri-Lawn, your lawn gets everything it needs, and nothing it doesn't.

At last week's meeting Thom talked to members about The 8 Steps to a Great Lawn. These are :

    1) Balanced Applications of Nutrients - will provide the nourishment needed to supplement the natural environmental nutrients that may be deficient in the soil. This should be done every 4-6 weeks.

    2) Annual Core Aeration - helps to improve the air exchange between the soil and atmosphere. It reduces puddles from water runoff and improves turfgrass rooting.

    3) Overseeding - each spring introduces new grass varieties to the turf resulting in a greener, thicker turf that can fend off weeds, insects, and diseases.

    4) Organics-Plus Top Dressing - or "biology in a bag" enhances microbial activity in the soil which acts to break up thatch and debris while adding valuable micronutrients to the soil.

    5) Mowing - should be done with a sharp mower blade, every 5-7 days. The ideal cutting height is 2.5-3 inches. This will create a healthier blade that will shade itself and have deeper root growth. Recycle grass clippings to supplement your lawn between feedings.

    6) Watering - must be scheduled regularly and sufficiently in order to store reserves between watering. Encourage deep root growth by watering 1 inch every 5-7 days.

    7) Proactive Monitoring - will ensure the quality of your lawn's appearance. If problems are identified, they can be dealt with immediately before spreading or significant damage occurs.

    8) Spring Grub Activity & Summer Beetle Fight Monitoring - will indicate the need for the application of Beneficial Nematodes, microscopic round worms that seek out and destroy grubs and reduce the fall damage.

Thom also introduced members to a new, fast acting product on the market called Fiesta. Fiesta is an organic product (not a pesticide) which provides proven weed control and is Health Canada, Activist and family approved.
