Sea Breeze Mexican Grill

Please join Mayor Menino, SMAMS, Ashmont Cycles, and Sea Breeze Mexican Grill on Thursday, August 16, 5:45 PM, to celebrate both businesses' beautiful new signs, which were assisted by SMAMS and the City's ReStore program.

We will gather at Ashmont Cycles, 551-A Talbot Ave (next door to Ashmont Grill) at 5:45 PM.  Officers from Boston Police Area C-11's Bicycle Unit will be on hand to discuss bike safety tips.

After the ceremony, Mayor Menino and the group will move on to Sea Breeze, 1782 Dorchester Ave, at the corner of Shepton Street, for another ribbon cutting and light refreshments.

Hope to see you there!

Caramelized Onions

This technique will yield perfectly caramelized onions which can be used in dips, as toppings for pizza or as a side-dish!

1-3 tbsp Oil or Butter
1 Onion
Pinch of salt and pepper
Pinch of sugar (optional)

1. Put oil or butter in a fry pan and place over medium-high heat

2. Remove top and bottom from onion, slice onion in half and remove the outer layer

3. Further slice the onion into desired thickness (the length of cooking time will depend on the thickness of your slices. Thicker takes longer to cook.)

4. When the oil begins to ripple it is ready. Place the sliced onion in the pan.

5. Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Adding salt will assist in removing excess water from the onions. A pinch of sugar can be added at this time if desired.

6. After about a minute you will notice that the onions begin to stick to the pan a bit. Its a good thing. Keep stirring (If you think too much is sticking to the bottom, you can add a bit of water, wine or broth to the pan to "deglaze" it.

7. The onions should be getting darker and darker but not burning.

8. When desired color and flavor has been accomplished, remove from heat and serve.

Enjoy!
