SMAMS businesses lead the way in ABC's "Challenge for Sustainability"
ABC Challenge Logo

Ashmont Cycles, Ashmont Grill, Epiphany School and Mass Affordable Housing Alliance have joined businesses from across the region in dedicating the next year to increase their sustainability and reduce energy use through participation in  A Better City's "Challenge for Sustainability."

Participants in the 2012 Challenge include some of Boston's largest buildings and progressive
businesses, from convention centers to small pizza shops.

Thanks to our local businesses and organizations, SMAMS has the highest participation rate of any Main Street district in Boston!

The Challenge helps businesses save money by increasing energy efficiency, reducing resource consumption, decreasing solid waste, and reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions. ABC provides participants with hands-on technical assistance, access to energy audits, guidance in developing and implementing a sustainability plan, and connection to a network of sustainability professionals and practitioners for networking and best practices sharing.

Participation for businesses throughout Boston's Main Streets districts has been made possible through a partnership with the City of Boston and funding from The Boston Foundation.

The Challenge for Sustainability was launched in 2009 by A Better City, a non-profit business association focused on transportation, land development, and environmental initiatives aimed at improving the economic competitiveness of Greater Boston.

Community meetings re MBTA's proposed service cuts, fare hikes

As you may have heard, the MBTA is proposing fare increases and service reductions.

The proposed service cuts include eliminating weekend service on the Mattapan trolley, as well as reducing service on some of the bus lines operating out of Ashmont Station.

One proposal calls for eliminating service on the #18 bus (Dot Ave from Ashmont to Andrew Station), either on Sundays or altogether.

Another calls for possibly eliminating weekday service on the #27 bus (Ashmont-Mattapan).

The T is holding a series of community meetings to discuss these proposals.  The closest meetings to the SMAMS district are:

Thursday, Feb 2; 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm
Dorchester House Multi-Service Center
1353 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester

If you want to make your voice heard on these proposals, please attend one of these meetings!

If you cannot attend, you can also email your comments to fareproposal@mbta.com or mail them to:
