Dot Day Parade

Dot Day Parade 2010 #1

Thanks to all who walked with SMAMS and Tavolo Ristorante in this year's Dorchester Day Parade June 6.  With the SMAMS banner publicizing local businesses, and Tavolo's towering float featuring the world's largest plate of  spaghetti & meatballs, it was a day to remember!

Special thanks to Vince Droser and Chris Douglass of Tavolo, plus an amazing crew of volunteers, for designing and building the Tavolo float.  Extra Special thanks to Kevin Doherty and K. Doherty Construction for the truck and float base!

Wainwright Bank, Tim Deihl  Named Business and Volunteer of the Year

Congratulations to Wainwright Bank and Tim Deihl, recently honored by Mayor Menino as SMAMS' Volunteer and Business of the Year for 2009!

Wainwright in 2008 became the first bank in memory to open a branch in the SMAMS district, and they have quickly become a fixture in the neighborhood.  Wainwright is very active in community affairs, and they are a lead sponsor of SMAMS' farmers' market at Ashmont Station.  Branch Manager Nick Calos is a leader of the SMAMS Business Task Force, which works to increase communication among local merchants, establish a business crime watch, and eliminate litter.

Tim Deihl has been a key contributor to SMAMS in the past year.  He took on the major job of managing our farmers' market, doing everything from recruiting farmers to delivering fliers door-to-door.  As a real estate broker with At-Home Real Estate, Tim is also a leader of the SMAMS Business Task Force.
