Peabody Square Re-Construction

 Peabody Sq Construc May 2010

The long-awaited Peabody Square renovations began in March, and are scheduled to be completed this fall.  The new design features safer intersections, more green space, a new plaza on the west side of Dot Ave., and a pilot stormwater filtration system based on "rain gardens" and porous pavement.

Thanks to all the residents and merchants who participated in the SMAMS-sponsored planning groups in 2004.  These meetings developed the vision for the Square as it is being rebuilt today.  Thanks also to the Boston Transportation and Public Works Departments, who have been great partners in this process; to the Mass Dept. of Transportation, which has taken on the project with federal "stimulus" funding; and McCourt Construction, which is doing a fantastic job on-the-ground.
Store 24 No More: Tedeschi's Extreme Makeover

 Tedeschi's Construction May 2010

The former Store 24 in Peabody Square is being transformed inside and out.  With help from the City's Department of Neighborhood Development, Tedeschi's and building owner Liberty Trust are currently renovating the exterior while converting the store to a Tedeschi's Food Shop.  Interior renovations are expected in the summer or fall.

Just as important as the physical renovations are changes in the store's operations.  After discussions with SMAMS, local civic associations and elected officials, the store has hired overnight security guards several nights a week, supplemented with drive-by security patrols.  The Tedeschi's people, from the franchise level to the top of the company, have shown a willingness to work with the community to make the store an asset to the neighborhood.
