Harvest Time at the Farmers' Market

 We're entering the final month of this year's market.  Stop in and stock up on fall fruits & vegetables, baked goods, flowers and arts & crafts!

A few highlights for this Friday -
  • Corn, mustard greens, Caribbean laloo and callaloo, mint, baby & dwarf bok choy, red choy, pea tendrils, lettuce, Swiss chard, purslaine, mint and raspberries at Flats Mentor Farm
  • Macoun, Cortland and Macintosh apples, Bosc pears, tomatoes, corn, pumpkins, winter squashes, peaches, eggs, nectarines, melons, carrots, kale, collards and cabbage at Spring Brook Farm
  • Mac, Cortland & Ginger Gold & Honey Crisp apples, sugar pumpkins, winter squashes, corn, tomatoes, Bartlett pears, peaches, Italian prune plums, raspberries, and blueberries at Farmer Dave's.

The market, sponsored by SMAMS, ODWIN Learning Center, Wainwright Bank and the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition, runs every Friday through October 30, from 3 to 7 p.m., rain or shine.  We are located at ODWIN Learning Center, 1943 Dorchester Ave., across from Ashmont Station and the Carruth Building.

Fifth Annual "Martinis on the Avenue" Oct. 29!

Stop by the Blarney Stone in Fields Corner on Thursday, October 29, 7:00 - 10:00 PM, for the fifth annual Martinis on the Avenue! Try out the new Halloween-tini, and support SMAMS' and Fields Corner Main Street's work revitalizing our Dot Ave business districts. To add to the fun and get warmed up for Halloween, come in costume for a chance at a great prize!

The Dot-2-Dot Cafe presents An Evening with Artist/Actor Neil Jones on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 PM.  $12 tickets include a buffet supper.  Mr. Jones will be discussing his artwork, currently on display at the cafe, and his life in the theatre, including roles in Liza with a "Z", Hello Dolly, The Apple Tree, Promises, Promises, and more.  For more info, or to purchase tickets, please call the cafe at 617-436-2368.

Flat Black Coffee presents White Chrome - The First Annual Boston Barista Throwdown Saturday, Oct. 24, 2:00 PM.  The best baristas representing independent cafés from Boston and surrounding towns will compete in front of a live and online audience.  The public is invited to taste beverages prepared by the competitors from 2:00 -4:00 PM during the practice rounds, and to witness the entire competition plus a "cupping" (tasting) hosted by Flat Black's master roaster and co-founder, David House.  Admission  is free, but a donation of $10 is suggested to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank.  For more information, please call Flat Black at  617-825-1440.

Ashmont Grill features Monday Night Wine Club every week. Four courses for $30, at 6:30 PM.
