Harvest Time at the Farmers' Market

A few highlights for this Friday -  Pumpkins, peaches, eggs, nectarines, melons, apples, squash, carrots, kale and collards at Spring Brook Farm
- Mac, Cortland & Ginger Gold apples, sugar pumpkins, butternut/buttercup/acorn/carnival squash, Bartlett pears, peaches, Italian prune plums, raspberries, and blueberries at Farmer Dave's.
- Corn, mustard greens, Caribbean laloo and callaloo, mint, corn, baby bok choy, pea tendrils, lettuce, Swiss chard, purslaine, mint and raspberries at Flats Mentor Farm.
The market, sponsored by SMAMS, ODWIN Learning Center, Wainwright Bank and the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition, runs every Friday through October 30, from 3 to 7 p.m., rain or shine. We are located at ODWIN Learning Center, 1943 Dorchester Ave., across from Ashmont Station and the Carruth Building.

available to all, vendors accept Food Stamps, WIC coupons, and Senior
Farmers' Market Nutrition coupons. Food Stamps up to $10 will be matched by "Boston Bounty Bucks." For

"White Chrome" - Boston's First Barista Throwdown - Oct. 24 at Flat Black Coffee
The
best baristas representing over 10 independent cafés from Boston and
surrounding areas will converge at Flat Black Coffee in the Carruth Building - 1906 Dorchester Ave at Ashmont Station - on Saturday, October 24th to compete in front of a live and online audience.
The public is invited to taste beverages prepared by the competitors
from 2:00 -4:00 PM during the practice rounds, and to witness the entire
competition as well as a cupping hosted by Flat Black's master roaster and co-founder, David House.
The public is also welcome to attend informational discussions on fair
trade, organic certification and espresso machine/brewer maintenance. Admission to the event is free, but a donation of $10 is suggested to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank.
