Entertainment will be provided the Irie Roots Band, a popular Carribbean combo.

Market vendors include Brox Farm of Dracut, run by former Peace Corps volunteer Dave Dumaresq; Springbrook Farm of Littleton, a family farm since 1713; Flats Mentor Farm of Lancaster, a project that helps immigrant farmers get a start in the United States; and Dorchester's own Dot-2-Dot Cafe and Cedar Grove Gardens.  Additional vendors, including artists, are being recruited over the summer.

To make this healthy food available to all, vendors will accept Food Stamps, WIC coupons, and Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition coupons.  Food Stamps up to $10 will be matched by "Boston Bounty Bucks."

Dot-2-Dot Named SMAMS Business of the Year
Dot-2-Dot Cafe Bus of Yr Award June 2009

The Dot-2-Dot Café was recently honored by Mayor Menino as SMAMS' Business of the Year for 2008.

The Dot-2-Dot is a small café with a high-quality menu, art exhibits, free wi-fi, and some of the best coffee in Boston.

Cordon Bleu chef Karen Henry-Garrett (center in photo) ran a high-end catering company in London before moving to Dorchester.  Upon arrival she set out to open a café that doubled as a community gathering space.

At the Dot-2-Dot you'll find groups of moms with toddlers, and teachers networking while going over lesson plans, as well as neighborhood regulars in for breakfast, lunch, Thursday night dinners or the D-2-D's fantastic weekend brunches.

Dot-2-Dot Cafe Grand Opening

As for the food - everything is made from scratch on the premises, from the ham & eggs to the breads, pies and other desserts.  The Dot-2-Dot is on the way to becoming a neighborhood institution in the St. Mark's area.

Congratulations to 2008's Volunteer of the Year, Rachel SMAMS Vol of Year Rachel Hronek June 2009Hronek

Rachel Hronek (center in photo) heard about SMAMS through a friend a few years ago and quickly became a dedicated volunteer.  She joined the Fundraising Committee and has played a leading role in Oscars on the Avenue, Martinis on the Avenue, and most recently the Main Street Open golf tournament.  Rachel has planned events, designed posters, recruited sponsors, hung fliers, worked registration tables and even donated auction items.  SMAMS relies on fundraisers to continue our work, and Rachel has been indispensable to our fundraising success.
