The Clay Station is a ceramics studio providing classes for people of all ages, as well as space for aspiring and professional artists to work. The Clay Station is the only studio of its kind in Dorchester, housing pottery wheels, classroom space and a glazing station, as well as exhibition space for original work made in the studio.
Dot Art plans to make The Clay Station, named for its location mid-way between Shawmut and Ashmont Stations on the MBTA Red Line, an easily recognizable fixture on the Avenue, and a welcoming home to artists of all ages and skill levels.

Boston Shines.....With Your Help!
Join your neighbors for the annual Boston Shines neighborhood cleanup
Saturday, April 26 - rain or shine! Meet at 9:00 AM, at either St. Mark's Rectory (20 Roseland St.) or the Peabody Square Clock park,
and we'll be finished by noon. Cleaning equipment is supplied, but if you have your own rakes, brooms, etc., you can bring those as well.
We're hoping for at least 50 cleaners this year. We have been asking the City to assign a permanent sweeper to the neighborhood, but we need to show that we practice what we preach! A big turnout for this cleanup will help to make our case.
For more information, please call
the SMAMS office at 617-825-3846. Thank you! |
SMAMS Opens New Office at Carruth
SMAMS has a new home, in the landmark Carruth building at Ashmont Station. The office, facing the station, is a convenient space for meeting with businesses and developers, and it gives us a prominent "presence" in the district. Many thanks to our generous sponsors Saint Mark Parish, who hosted our office for eight years, and Trinity Financial, who created such a beautiful new space. Feel free to drop in anytime, and watch for the announcement of our grand-opening celebration coming soon!

Mother's Walk for Peace - May 11
The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute is preparing for its 12th Annual Mothers' Walk for Peace, a fundraiser to support families statewide who have lost loved ones to violence. The walk takes place on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, starting at the Town Field in Field's Corner. Registration starts at 7:00 AM.
The walk route stretches approximately 4 miles, through the Saint Mark's area, Codman Square, Four Corners, Uphams Corner and Bowdoin-Geneva, ending back at Town Field.
Funds raised from the walk will support these Peace Institute activities:
- Helping families to cope with sudden, tragic loss and navigate the criminal justice system
- Creating an environment for reconciliation between families of victims and offenders
- PEACEZONE, a nationally-recognized school-based program that helps students heal from trauma and loss, make positive decisions, and avoid risk-taking behavior
Last year, 5000 residents from across the state participated in the walk and event organizers hope to double that number this year. Clementina Chéry, the Institute's president, says "I believe it's possible for Boston to rise above violence completely and permanently. We won't rest until that goal is achieved and every child is truly safe and on a positive path in life."
