  • Greetings!

This spring marks SMAMS' fifth anniversary of "Conecting Dot Ave!" During that time, we have done everything from sweeping the streets to planning new, safer street layouts. In between, we have worked on renovating storefronts, recruiting new businesses, promoting our businesses and putting the Fun into Fundraising with political roasts and comedy nights.

All this has been made possible by the work of many volunteers - too many to mention here - and the generous support of donors and elected officials. We look forward to many new projects in the next five years. If you would like to be part of our business district's rebirth, please join us! All are welcome. Rep. Linda Dorcena-Forry to Speak at Fifth Annual Meeting

Rep. Linda Dorcena-Forry, the newest member of Dorchester's State House delegation, will be the guest speaker at SMAMS' fifth Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 25, 6:30 PM, at the Plasterers' Union Hall, corner of Minot and Frederika Streets. We will also present anniversary awards to some of our long-time supporters, go over our work plan and budget, and elect members to the Board of Directors. The new Ashmont Grill will provide refreshments. All are welcome, so please join us! For more information, please call us at 617-825-3846.

Boston Shines! Re-Scheduled to Saturday, May 14

Due to last weekend's rain-out, Boston Shines! - the Citywide cleanup project - has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 14, 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM. Stop by St. Mark's Rectory (20 Roseland Street) to pick up cleaning tools, then spread out around the district (Dot Ave from Mercier Ave/Ashmont Station to Melville Ave/Parkman Street). Hope to see you there!

    ColorStruck! Benefit Report

Thank you to all who attended ColorStruck! - Boston's Women of Color in Comedy on May 5. We enjoyed pizza, each other's cpompany, and lots of laughs, and we raised money to help carry on SMAMS' work of revitalizing our business district. Thanks especially to lead sponsor Mt. Washington Bank and co-sponsors Countrywide Mortgage, Councilor Maureen Feeney, Metalsmiths, Inc., Dorchester Artists' Collaborative, Dunphy Management, American Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, American Express Financial Advisors, and Adams Street Shell.
