    "ColorStruck!" SMAMS Fundraiser May 5

SMAMS presents an evening of comedy with ColorStruck! Boston's Women of Color in Comedy, featuring four of the area's funniest comics. The event will be held at Florian Hall in Dorchester on Thursday May 5, 2005, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Dinner is included in the price of the ticket.

Dorchester's own Deb Farrar-Parkman (in photo), an African-American comedienne who performs regularly at Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway, will perform. Also featured is Iranian-American Muslim comic Tissa Hami, who has been profiled on NPR and the BBC and headlined Boston's First Night this past year. Filipino/Irish-American comedienne Malissa Hunt will also perform. Coleen Galvin, who says she's Irish, Native and African American, rounds out the show. Coleen has appeared on "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" and Comedy Central.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and dinner starts at 7:30. The comedy starts at 8:00. Attendees will also be able to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Patriots Opening Game Extravaganza on September 8.

Tickets for the event are $30 and are available by calling SMAMS at 617-825-3846, or you can order online at www.smams.org. Tables of 10 are available for $300 Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Banton Street Lot Community Meeting Set for May 2

The City of Boston's Department of Neighborhood Development will hold a public meeting on Monday, May 2, 7:00 PM, at St. Mark's School Hall, to discuss the development of vacant land on the west side of Dorchester Ave. between Tillman Street and Banton Street. This is the lot that had been vacant and an eyesore for over 20 years. A building is under construction at the front of the lot, but there is still much vacant City-owned land in back. Several companies have submitted development proposals. Now is your chance to give your opinion on how this land should be used. Everyone who is interested in the future of this property is urged to attend! For further information, please call Dan Larner at St. Mark's Area Main Street, 617-825-3846.

SMAMS Spring Cleaning - "Boston Shines," May 7

After a long winter, our neighborhood could use some sprucing up! Boston Shines, the annual Citywide cleanup day, will take place Saturday, May 7, 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM. Meet at St. Mark's Rectory. For more information, please call Dan Larner in the SMAMS office at 617-825-3846.
