HUD Secretary and USICH Chair Shaun Donovan Hosts Second Interagency Council Meeting in 2010 to Discuss Finalizing the Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness

Interagency Council Meeting - May 19

Following a meeting last week of the full U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, the Council announced that it is very close to finalizing the first ever Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. The meeting had the full participation of the Council, including three Cabinet Secretaries - HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis -  CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service Patrick Corvington, and representatives from the 15 other Council agencies.

USICH Executive Director Testifies with VA and HUD Secretaries on Veterans Homelessness



At a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee meeting on May 19, 2010, Executive Director Barbara Poppe testified about the key initiatives that are underway among the Interagency Council members to address Veterans homelessness. HUD Secretary and USICH Chair Shaun Donovan and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki also testified about their respective departments work on the issue and collaborative efforts between the two departments.

HUD Hosts Symposium on New Homelessness Studies

On May 20, HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research hosted a symposium to discuss three newly released research reports. The group included staff from across HUD, as well as other federal agencies, including the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. Researchers, advocates, and leaders from philanthropy and communities tackling homelessness gathered in Washington DC.
