Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce

Vermont Strong Valley Takes on You Tube

January 27, 2012

Dear Fellow Business Owner:

We came out of the meeting last week with some real positive energy from the membership of the chamber.  People are excited to get involved and want to participate in the operation of their chamber and that is fantastic!

Most exciting is the idea to take on You Tube, yes, you read that correctly, we are going head-to-head with You Tube and the results casting our valley as that of the victim.  We are Vermont Strong, we are a valley who has, and will continue, to take care of its own.  And most importantly, we are open for business!

We are excited to share the enclosed informational sheet with you announcing the details of the Vermont Strong Valley You Tube Challenge.  It is our sincere hope that this program will be embraced first by our membership, and as participation increases each day, by our devoted friends of the valley.  The goal is to create enough videos with enough views to change our public image from that of a victim to victor.  This story will provide a great hook to share with the print media once the effort is under way.

Please find the enclosed fact sheet detailing the initial efforts you may undertake to participate.  Remember, this requires ACTIVE involvement from all members.  For those who may be a little apprehensive about your technical abilities, please view the tutorial videos anyway. You may find that with a little trial and error, this is easier than imagined.  However, in the end if you support the idea, but break out in hives at the thought of becoming a videographer,  have no fear, we have
partnered with Therese Lounsbury of Mount Snow TV41 to help you get your own video up and running.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this effort.

Vermont Strong Viral Video Initiative

What is it:

  • The Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce is taking on You Tube; we are looking to change the message from one of a victim of Irene to that of A Vermont Strong Valley that is open for business.

How:

  • MSVCOC will provide tutorial videos on visitvermont.com web site to help members learn how to create their own You Tube feed on their business web site.  Additional tutorials will demonstrate how to take, upload, edit and tag videos with appropriate titles, share videos through various social media outlets, as well as include a common brand and theme to ensure unification across the valley-wide effort.

So What?:

  • All videos will be shot to show the world that we are open for business.  While this effort is beginning in the winter season, we anticipate it will continue forward through the spring, summer and fall.  The strategy will be to highlight the specific business or highlight one of the many attributes our valley offers.  Incorporating a common tag line such as, Vermont Strong Valley or some such title will provide cohesion amongst the multitude of businesses participating. We will also provide instruction on proper tagging and use of keywords for search engine optimization. The chamber will then take this effort and launch a PR campaign highlighting our Vermont Strong Valley approach to informing the world we are open for business.

Seems pretty cool-what else is there?

  • MSVCOC will obtain member donations of goods and services to create three two-night getaway ski packages offered as incentives for promoting our initiative.  We will leverage the power of our Facebook, Twitter, and other social media along with our 2,200 plus newsletter members to encourage the viral spread of our campaign.  Friends of the valley and the general population will be encouraged to share our videos via their personal Facebook pages.  The individual receiving the highest number of likes for our videos will receive one of the two night stay ski packages.

  • We will also be finalizing additional promotional rewards for funniest video, most viewed videos and other ideas.  A brief flier will be created outlining the program and encouraging member lodging properties to share this flier with their check-ins.  As word spreads about this program, we hope to recruit all of our visitors to continue to shoot and share videos of our Vermont Strong Valley with our You Tube page and the world!

I'm Scared- I love the idea, but frankly, you lost me at upload and embed!

  • No problem, The Mount Snow Valley Chamber has partnered with Mount Snow TV to offer video production services to present a valley cooperative each week that features a minimum of 3 businesses, supported by a variety of scenic imagery valley-wide.  New footage from 3 area businesses can be filmed weekly by Mount Snow TV, or provided by area businesses (if quality is approved by Mount Snow TV) who have paid $100 to be featured, and all editing, valley-wide scenic imagery, and initial posting to youtube is to be done by Mount Snow TV.  The video will be made "public" so that anyone may embed the video into their own website.  The website addresses of featured businesses and that of Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce will be featured on each video post.  Businesses may contact Mount Snow TV directly to be a featured business.  By email tlounsbury@outsidetv.com or phone 802-464-4179
