Dear Sweet Yogis & Yoginis,
"Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will
die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round..." ~The Flaming Lips
May! Be amazed!
May is here and with it comes the mayhem! So many good things, like beautiful spring days, flowers, Mother's day, Memorial Day, birthdays, endings, beginnings, graduations!!! There is so much to do, to prepare for and participate in. It is easy to get swept away in the frenetic energy and to forget about how it feels to just be. Our cup runneth over, and this happens there is stress. Stress happens under good as well as well as bad circumstances. It makes up irritable and exhausted. It weakens our immune systems and can take away our joy. Remember, we at Om Sweet Om Yoga are here to be your sanctuary and support. We offer to you more opportunities to release, relax, renew and receive every bit of enjoyment out of your May while maintaining your well being in body, mind and spirit. So carve out the time your you. You need and deserve it! We look forward to seeing you soon at Om Sweet Om Yoga.
"God couldn't be everywhere, therefore he invented
mothers."

Asana/Posture of the Month
Ananda Balasana/Happy Baby Yoganidrasana/Yogi's Sleep Pose
Lie down on your back take a deep breath in and let it all
out. Inhale and bend your knees into your chest and take hold of the
outer
edges of your feet with your knees at your armpits. Pull the feet down
so that
the knees come closer to the floor. Relax the shoulders and head on the
floor.
This is Happy Baby/ Ananda Balasana. If you want to move deeper you may try to bring your arms
behind your lower back , your knees will go behind your arms/shoulders
and you
may bring the palms together at the heart center in prayer position or
eventually clasp your hands together behind your back. Keep working to
expand
the chest and open the hips at the same time. Eventually you may cross the legs behind the head (right
foot first) and extend the arms over the thighs and clasp the hands
behind the
back. This pose is called Yogi's Sleep or Yoganidrasana. The pillow that
you
rest your head upon here is the leg or foot behind your head. The face
should
be relaxed as should be the rest of you as if you were dreaming as David
Swenson and Guruji would say. Physical benefits: Happy baby is a gentle but deep hip
opener. It stretches the hamstrings and low back and groin muscles. It
also
helps to massage the organs, the spine and the muscles of the back. Spiritual Benefits: This is a pose of surrender and release.
It is prone and yet held. Learning to trust and go with the breath will
bring
deeper release. The more relaxed you can be in this pose deeper you
will
go.

Satsang with Lisa With Mothers day on the horizon my heart and mind turn toward
the subject of "mother" and all the
manifestations of the divine mother and love that we experience in our lives. The
energy of the divine mother is creative and nurturing, sustaining and protective,
tender and unconditionally loving. Male or female, each of us has this within. These qualities are
expressed through us as love in its purest form throughout our lives. Whether we
are at home with children or tending a garden, whether we are teachers or healers,
friends or even co-workers, we are often moved to and/or called upon to show up
in this loving way. So it stands to reason that although we all have but one special
biological mother who brought us into this world, sustained and nurtured us through,
we have many other mothers in this one life. These mothers are the people who have
loved and supported us along our path of living in our truth and toward self-realization. So this Mother as day I invite you to open your heart to gratitude
for all of the love you have received throughout your life to get you to this place. I personally am grateful to my many nurturers without whom I
might not see my highest self. In particular I am grateful to my late guruji and
other teachers who instilled in me a love of practice. And to my greatest teacher,
the practice itself. In honor of the one year anniversary of the passing of Sri K Pattahbi
Jois I am offering a special class on May 18th 7:30-9 pm (led primary series) with
audio and (hopefully) visual tribute to Guruji. You may also choose to make a donation
that will benefit Tibetan Relief. Namaste :) "You suppose you are the trouble
But you are the cure
You suppose that you are the lock on the door
But you are the key that opens it
It's too bad that you want to be someone else
You don't see your own face, your own beauty
Yet, no
face is more beautiful than yours." ~Rumi
