Dear Sweet Yogis and Yoginis
As Thanksgiving approaches it is fitting that our hearts and minds turn toward gratitude.  It is a time to gather with those we love and celebrate in the spirit of abundance the love and good fortune we share in this very moment of togetherness. In this busy world that we all live in where multitasking is the rule and we are all so good at juggling that we could join the circus, it is so important to remember to slow down and be in the moment.

Our Yoga practice is very helpful in this regard. Yoga heightens our ability to live fully! Standing postures build our emotional courage, mental focus and determination. Challenging postures - there is an endless variety - build muscle tone, core strength and stability. A well-balanced yoga practice increases our physical and mental flexibility.

Back bends literally and figuratively open our hearts; they dissolve our protective shell and allow us to connect with others at a deeper level. In forward bends we turn inward and look at our inner-selves more deeply. Twisting postures allow us to look back and reflect: while part of our body faces ahead (the future) part of us is turning and looking behind (the past), and as we focus on the breath (now) we reconcile these aspects of our life. Optimal alignment in the poses increases our sensitivity and awareness and helps us to adapt emotionally and physically to the changing seasons and rhythms of our lives. When we perform balancing postures it requires complete focus on the breath and nothing else - as soon as our mind wanders we lose our balance. This trains us to live more fully in the now and see the beauty of the present. Seeing the beauty of everything around us with appreciation and living in the moment is the key to a rich and abundant life.

On this note, Gail and I would like to express our sincere and heart felt gratitude to you our beloved sangha ( yoga community) on the occasion of our 4th Thanksgiving at Om Sweet Om.  Your beauty inspires us daily to be the best we can be in service to you for which were are very thankful.

Please note that QiGong and Lore's 5:30 open class, plus all kids classes are cancelled for this evening (Wednesday).
We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, reopening on Friday with our regular schedule except for the 8 am class.

Join us at the Turkey Trot at Manorhaven Park at 8:15 am Thursday for some sun salutations to stretch you out before you walk or run, or just join us! We will meet in front of the big buiding.
Sanskrit word of the month
Oso outsideSangha- meaning community, more specifically the  spiritual community..  Also understood as  all  beings on the path of the spiritual warrior, that is  committed to continually opening to experience and softening and disarming rather than retreating and hardening, remaining ignorant of the interconnectedness of all living things.
"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." ~John F. Kennedy

Pose of the month
ardha matseandrasanaArdha Matseyendrasana- Half Lord of the Fishes Posture
Sit on the mat and cross your right leg over the left so that the left comes to the outside of the right buttock and the right foot to the outside of the left knee. Lift your sine tall and root both sit bones into the ground as you twist to the right placing the right hand on the mat behind you in line with your spine and hugging right knee into your left armpit or placing your right elbow or shoulder to the outside of your right knee. Inhale length from the base of the spine up through the crown of the head,. Exhale and twist a little deeper.

Physical benefits-Twists help to cleanse the organ sytems, kidneys, liver adrenal glands, intestines. Dislodging toxins and replenishing stagnant fluids with fresh. Bringing greater health and well being to the body.

Spiritual benefits-twisting postures allow us to look back and reflect, while part of our body in facing ahead (the future) and part of us is turning and looking behind (the past), and as we focus on the breath ( the now) we reconcile these aspects of our life.
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." ~Melody Beattie

Say a Little Prayer
One of our dearest Yoginis, Sara Lucks, was in a terrible car accident recently and is currently in North Shore hospital journeying back to health after suffering head and brain trauma and facial and skull fractures. She is doing very well, but not completely out of the woods. The family as well as Sara greatly appreciates us putting her in our prayers.
We hope to see you soon at Om.
Love and peace and more love, Lisa and Gail
