Hello Sweet Yogis and Yoginis,

"The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another.
The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month."
- Henry Van Dyke, Fisherman's Luck, 1899

It is said that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. It is a time where the seasons as well as everything around us are in state of noticeable transition.

Are you ready for spring? For many of us (me and Gail included) the response is a resounding “Yes!” We are ready to shed our coats and expose our skin to the air and sun. We are ready to breath deeply the outdoors into our lungs. We have embodied the fierce lion-like warrior qualities needed to endure the winter months. We have cultivated the boldness, passion and heat within our hearts, bodies and minds to keep the spirit light and lifted through the short days and long nights of winter.

Just as we anticipate the change so does the rest of nature around us. As we await the opportunity to soften and expand so do the trees, plants and the very earth we walk on. The desire to let the warrior within go and surrender to our most gentle tender lamblike selves is palpable.

Let us practice patience as we watch with heightened awareness this transition. With each day that passes, truly with each moment that passes, let us connect to gratitude for the gifts that each moment and day offers, remembering that they are fleeting. Watch with wonder as the first haze of color surrounds the small branches of the trees and bushes. See the tiny buds appear and then swell before they burst into leaf or flower. Savior the wind as it slows to a breeze carrying with it the earthy scents of thawing ground and sea. Before we know it this challenge will have passed and we will be on to the next. Why not enjoy the moment. After all it is all we have, and it is a gift. That’s why we call it the present.

sanskrit satya
Satya--- (The second yama) meaning truthfulness or literally non-lying. Lying and deceit create confusion and the inability to access inner wisdom. Practicing truthfulness in speech, thought and action will bring greater clarity to your living.
goddess
Supta Badhakonasana- goddess pose. Lie on your back either over a bolster (the bolster can go from the base of the spine along the spine and under you head) or just on the floor. Your arms may be away from you body about a foot or two palms face up, or you can let your hands rest on your thighs. Bend your knees and bring your feet together as in badhakonasana and let your knees drop out to opposite sides. (If you feel pulling in the thighs or hip flexors you may put props such as blocks under your knees or thighs) Lie here and breath deeply into your body feeling an expansion in your heart center as you inhale and letting the belly and buttocks relax as you exhale.

Physical Benefits
Goddess pose allows the inner thighs to stretch gently and the whole spine to lengthen. This pose also helps to calm the nervous system and and expand breath capacity. It is a restorative posture that is also uplifting due to the backbend.

Spiritual Benefits
Goddess pose is a restorative and supported pose that allows for a feeling of safety and surrender. It opens the heart center (seat of love and compassion, as well as strength and courage), as well as the hips where emotions concerning survival and trust issues are held.
