Welcome to the June 2012 issue of the IL-HITREC INTERCHANGE. This newsletter is your resource for news and information on the REC program in Illinois.

REC services, Medicaid incentives boost economy  

State and local economies are getting a boost from increasing federal Medicaid dollars as a result of the work with priority primary care practices being done by the Illinois Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (IL-HITREC).   The program is funded entirely through a federal grant and includes no state dollars. IL-HITREC anticipates that 381 of providers in its service region will receive nearly $8.5 million in federal Medicaid first-year pay-out incentives during 2012.  IL-HITREC anticipates an additional 150 of its providers will receive about $3.2 million in federal Medicaid incentive pay-outs in 2013. State-wide data that includes Chicago provided by the ONC indicated first-year Medicaid pay-outs to 478 eligible providers of $10.1 million through the end of February. Read the complete article
Roger Holloway named CEO/President of IRHN

Roger L. HollowayRoger L. Holloway has been named CEO and President of the Illinois Rural HealthNet following a reorganization designed to broaden the scope and reach of the network, according to John L. Lewis, chairman of the IRHN board. IRHN is a high-speed, fiber-optic network that links rural Illinois hospitals and clinics with tertiary hospitals, and also throughout the nation. IRHN's network allows health care providers to connect to the fiber backbone and exchange vital information over a dedicated network: www.illinoisruralhealthnet.org.


Lewis said Holloway brings more than 30 years of health care experience to the IRHN, where he will focus on establishing partnerships with hospitals and clinics to provide them with the bandwidth they will need to meet future health care demands. Read the complete article

Orchard Medical Group meets M3 Attestation
Illinois Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center's (IL-HITREC) Northeast Satellite Office managed by the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC) has announced six physicians from Orchard Medical Group have reached Stage 1 Meaningful Use requirements set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

 

Orchard Medical Group, located in Skokie, IL, has been specializing in internal medicine since 1985, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. USDA Financing for EHR Planning, Implementation
The 2015 deadline for meaningful use of an EHR is fast approaching. If you are looking for funding to meet that requirement, the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Program has more than $1 billion dollars in low cost loans available with a priority on funding EHR planning, equipment, and implementation, as well as construction and infrastructure.
