Food & Water
Your Chance to Help

Gratitude to all who have made donations to the Minnehaha Food Shelf. Many have brought breakfast and lunch items that will feed the hungry. This week, we focus on dinner items (pasta, pasta sauce, soup). Donations can be dropped in the bins near the entrances.

The project to raise funds for drinking water for the students of St. Francis Academy in Kenya is in progress. Students in the school and faith formation programs are doing their part to make quenched thirst a part of the St. Francis Academy learning experience. See a larger photo of the 36 students at the Academy by clicking on the image.

State of the School Recap and Mardi Gras Totals

Thank you to all who joined us to hear about the State of Our School Ministry. The School Advisory Committee shared details of their work and Dr. Lori Glynn gave an update on the exciting things happening at the school. Couldn't attend? You can view a copy of the powerpoint presentation here.

One highlight of the evening was the report that, unofficially, the Mardi Gras Gala raised over $38,000 for Our Lady of Peace School! Thank you to all who attended and supported the Gala. Our previously posted list of donors! Thanks!

Catholicism Series Continues

Participants in the Catholicism Series at Our Lady of Peace have learned a great deal in viewing the series. We've built a stronger understanding of the core of our religion and we've built better relationships with other members of the parish.

The series continues this week with the Monday evening group focusing on The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church on March 26. Meanwhile the Tuesday morning group will meet on March 27 to follow the adventures of Peter and Paul as they spread the Word! Info about the series at OLP

Friday. Fish. Faith.
Friday March 23, 2012

Our final Lenten fish fry of 2012 is Friday, March 23 from 5:00 - 7:30 in the school gym. Dining on delicious fish in the company of family, neighbors, and friends is nice enough, but doing so knowing that your meal money also supported the 2012 Mission Trip is even better. The Mission Trip is inching toward their fundraising goal - check the thermometer!

After the meal don't miss an opportunity to watch the youth of the parish act out the Stations of the Cross in the church at 7:15 pm. This beautiful and moving portrayal of the Stations of the Cross will top off a wonderful evening at OLP.

Changes in Parish Personnel
Any parish knows that a very important position in keeping the ship running is the Maintenance Supervisor.  We are very glad to welcome Steve Becker into this position. Steve comes to us with years of facilities and organizational experience. Steve is currently in the process of assessing and prioritizing our campus needs and also quickly attending to a long list of repair and improvement items. We are very glad to welcome Steve to Our Lady of Peace.

Our Lady of Peace says goodbye to our Parish Business Administrator, Jennifer Hovland, whose last day was last week.  Currently we are evaluating our needs in the administrative area and shifting some responsibilities so that the important administrative functions continue to be covered and questions from parishioners and other stakeholders are responded to in a timely manner. If anyone has outstanding or unresolved questions that were sent to Jennifer previously, I would ask that they contact Renee Svard or Kathy Callahan in our parish office. Questions on contributions or donations as well as questions about use of rooms or space on campus can be directed to Kathy Callahan.

Planning for Parish Planning
In the last several years, we have seen a lot changes to the operations and ministry of Our Lady of Peace. Successful parishes have a strong pastoral plan which comes from a process of thinking, praying and articulating our mission and values and then aligning our resources and ministries to that mission and a shared vision. In the upcoming weeks, parishioners will have an opportunity to become involved through a parish-wide survey and also by considering becoming a part of a team of ten to twelve people who will comprise a planning team.

Our timeframe for completion is aggressive. We want to have much of our work completed by the early summer so that we can begin to plan for next fall and beyond. Look for more information from Joe Crosby, Communication and Community Life Coordinator, and I encourage everyone to respond to the survey and provide input which will be important in evaluating where we are at and help us set a course for the future. We have a great opportunity to connect all that we do to the building up the Body of Christ here at Our Lady of Peace.
